Plant Regulators and Hormones in Orchid Conservation

What would you do if you received this plant (Phalaenopsis intermedia var. Diezii.) and you discovered that it was sterile and extinct? Selfing would be impossible. Meristeming for the amateur would be impractical.

After much experimentation, we developed a method of conserving this truly endangered species by using plant hormones. As a result both endangered and common orchids can benefit from the application of hormonal plant regulators.

There are three major uses of plant regulators in the conservation of orchids:

Application of Keikigrow Plus to nodes of Phalaenopsis

Apply the lanolin-based paste (sheds water) to nodes 2-4 on the Phalaenopsis inflorescence only AFTER the last flower bud has been open for one week.

Keep relative humidity high (over 60%), temperature at least 70 degrees F. (18 degrees C.), change to a high-nitrogen fertilizer (e.g. 30-10-10), use soft water (pH 6) and maintain good air flow.
